2nd – 4th March
During this period we will be undertaking our main spring renovation works across the greens, tees, approaches and fairways.
The following operations will take place:
- Deep-tining greens, tees and approaches to a depth of 250mm with 12mm tines.
- Deep-tining fairways to a depth of 250mm with 25mm tines.
- Verti-cutting greens (-2/-3mm) to remove thatch and improve surface quality
- Top dressing greens with RH37 sand (approx. 2/3 tonne per green)
- Overseeding with a fescue/bent grass mixture
- Brushing sand into the surface and rolling greens
- Applying fertiliser to aid recovery and seed establishment
To support recovery and allow the new seed to establish, the height of cut will remain at 4.5mm for a short period following the works.
These processes all help contribute to smoother, firmer and healthier playing surfaces as the season progresses.
16th – 18th March
During this period we will be using the VGR Top Changer XP to further improve drainage and soil structure.
This machine uses high-pressure water aeration to create channels in the soil profile, allowing sand to be injected deep into the ground. This helps to:
- Improve drainage
- Firm up surfaces
- Reduce thatch build-up
- Enhance long-term turf health
Following the process, any residue will be brushed in and the surfaces rolled to restore playability.
You can view how the machine works HERE.
All works are subject to weather and ground conditions, and timings may be adjusted if required.
Whilst this maintenance takes place, the course will be closed on:
Monday 2nd March – Wednesday 4th March
Monday 16th March – Wednesday 18th March
On Thursday 5th March and Friday 6th March, fairway aeration will be carried out and one hole at a time may be temporarily closed while this work takes place.
The Clubhouse and Kitchen will remain open throughout, operating slightly reduced hours, however please note the kitchen will be closed on Monday 16th March for maintenance.
If you are looking to play on any of the days that the course is closed, we have arranged additional tee times at our reciprocal courses. Please get in touch with the membership team (memberships@theleatherheadclub.com) from Monday 23rd when these times will be able to be booked in.
As always, we will keep you updated with our progress and keep an eye on the courseline for daily news and/or any restrictions.
Kind regards,
The Greenkeeping Team & Golf Operations
